A Sonepat Court has granted bail to the labour activist Shiv Kumar in all the three cases registered against him. He has already got the bail in two cases on March 3 while in the third case, he has been granted bail today.

Shiv Kumar, the president of Mazdoor Adhikar Sangathan was arrested on January 16, four days after the arrest of his colleague and Dalit labour activist Nodeep Kaur. They were arrested in connection to the January 12 violence during the ongoing protest outside Kundli Industrial area. They were booked under the charges of attempt to murder, theft, and extortion.

Workers were protesting outside the factory in Kundli Industrial Area over the alleged harassment of workers and non-payment of wages. They were accused of extorting and attacking the factory owners.

Three FIRs were registered against Nodeep Kaur also. She got bail in all the three cases on February 26. She alleged that she was beaten and sexually harassed in police custody. She also made revelations, “While torturing me, the police kept saying that I am a Dalit and I should behave like one. ‘Your job is to clean the gutters. Who gave you the right to organize protests against big people?”

The medical examination report of Shiv Kumar also shocked everyone on February 26. As per the report submitted by GMCH, Shiv Kumar had eight injuries. The report revealed that he had multiple fractures, torn toe nails, and was harassed mentally as well as physically. His injuries were believed to be two weeks old. Shiv Kumar also showed few post-traumatic stress disorder-like symptoms.
