Madras High Court advocate G Rajesh has filed a complaint against the officials of the Reserve Bank of India for not standing up for the Tamil anthem on Republic Day.
The complaint mentioned that the RBI staff misinterpreted the recent order passed by Justice GR Swaminathan. The order was passed by the Madurai bench of Madras High Court.
The RBI officials referred to a December 2021 order claiming that the court had ruled that there is no need to stand during the Tamil anthem. However, the state government has made it a National anthem, making it mandatory to stand up when the song is played.
On Wednesday, a commotion broke out at the RBI Chennai office after the staff didn’t stand up during the Tamil anthem Tamil Thai Vazhthu. The people who raised objections informed the staff about the state government order but they allegedly walked away.
In December 2021, Justice GR Swaminathan noted that Tamil Thai Vazhthu is a prayer song and not a national anthem. Therefore, there is no need to stand for the song.
