Supreme Court on Wednesday has directed the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to notify the details related to concerns raised by the CA candidates and the remedial measures that they have been taking to address these concerns.

The apex court bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar has asked the ICAI to release a press note in order to inform the candidates about the corrective measures that have been taken by the national professional accounting body of India with respect to conducting the exams with properly following the COVID-guidelines.

Besides that, the court has also disposed of a plea seeking formulation of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for conducting the CA exams.

On the previous hearing, the top court had asked the Advocate Bansuri Swaraj, senior counsel appearing for the petitioner, to have a meeting with ICAI counsel, Advocate Ramji Srinivasan, to discuss the issues.

While appearing before the bench today, Advocate Swaraj told the court that she had a video conference with Srinivasan where they discussed the concerns raised by the candidates.

Srinivasan told the court that some students had raised the issue related to exam centres being in containment zones.

“We have checked and the four centres which apparently fell in containment zones, have ceased to do so,” said Srinivasan.

He further submitted, “My friend also asked if the exams could be taken up online. We cannot do that because the exam format is different and cannot be done in that manner.”

“We are strictly acting in compliance of MHA guidelines. We will not put to risk the students. We cannot however provide isolation rooms and risk with,” Srinivasan said.

The Chartered Accountant examination has been scheduled between November 21, 2020 and December 14, 2020.
