Marking a positive start to Pride month, Kerala High Court reunited a lesbian couple who was abused and forcefully separated by their parents.

A division bench comprising Justice K Vinod Chandran and Justice C Jayachandran allowed the petitioner’s habeas corpus petition. The bench allowed the women to live together.

The petition was filed by one Adhila and Fathima was forcefully taken away by her parents.

The two fell in love with each other in 11th standard in Saudi Arabia. But they faced strong opposition from their parents. It was alleged that both the families abused the couple verbally as well as physically.

They decided to move to Chennai after securing a job in Metro. Distressed over the continuous abuse at the hand of their families, the couple took shelter in Vanaja Collective, an organisation which works for the welfare of the LGBTQ community.

Adhila posted a video on social media after Fathima was once again separated by her family and took her with them. Then, she filed a police complaint and also filed a habeas corpus petition before the High Court.

After Fathima was produced before the court, she expressed her wish to live with Adhila. The bench considered her submission and allowed the petition.
