The Bombay High Court today has granted bail to the former CEO of STAR India, Peter Mukerjea who is co-accused in the Sheena Bora murder case. The court also directed him to pay Rs 2 lakh and said that the bail was granted on the merits of the case and considering his medical conditions. However, despite the bail, Peter won’t be able to walk out of jail.
Observing that there was no evidence against Peter, who has been in jail for the past four years, the high court stayed its own order for six weeks in order to grant prosecution a chance to move the apex court. Peter will not be allowed to contact his children Rahul and Vidhi.
Peter is accused of murdering Sheena Bora, who was the daughter of his wife Indrani Mukerjea from her previous relationship. During the investigation, the CBI stated Peter to be a silent killer of Sheena. Subsequently, he was arrested on 19 November 2015. Later, he applied for bail before special CBI Judge JC Jagdale which was opposed by the special public prosecutor Bharat Badami who stated that “Peter was knowing everything. He was not a statue of the family. He took no step when Rahul (Peter’s son) was desperately asking about Sheena. Peter is a silent killer of Sheena.”
In April 2012, a 24-year-old Sheena Bora who was the daughter of Indrani Mukerjea from her earlier relationship was murdered in a horrific way by her own mother Indrani and their car driver, Shyamvar Rai. The incident came to light when the driver was arrested in some other case and he spilt the beans of Sheena Bora’s murder.
Indrani Mukerjea, a former media executive, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna, Rai and Peter Mukerjea were arrested in the case. Rai later became an approver and was pardoned. Indrani Mukerjea, who is in jail since her arrest in August 2015, is facing murder charges, while Peter Mukerjea has been accused by the CBI of being a part of the criminal conspiracy.
Currently, Indrani Mukerjea and Sanjeev Khanna are also lodged in jail since their arrest in the case in April 2015.
