A special CBI court in Ranchi has convicted former Chief Minister of Bihar and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Lalu Prasad Yadav in Doranda treasury case which is the fifth and final case in overall fodder scam. He has already been convicted in the four other cases.

The quantum of sentence will reportedly be decided on February 21.

The court held him guilty of illegal withdrawal of ₹139 crore from Doranda treasury scam. In the other four cases, he has been convicted of fraudulent withdrawal of ₹37.7 crore and ₹ 33.13 crore from the Chaibasa treasury, ₹89.27 crore from the Deoghar treasury, and ₹3.76 crore from the Dumka treasury.

The infamous fodder scam worth ₹ 950 crore occurred during his tenure as Chief Minister between 1991 and 1996.

Yadav had been in jail since December 2017. In 2018, he was sentenced to seven years in prison under Indian Penal Code and seven years under Prevention of Corruption Act in fodder scam case.

The court had also imposed a fine of Rs 60 lakh in the Dumka case.

He got bail in the Chaibasa treasury scam case in October 2020, Deoghar Treasury Scam case in February 2020, and Dumka treasury case in April 2021. He is currently out on bail.

In the whole matter, there were 170 accused. Out of them, 55 are dead, seven become government witnesses, two have confessed their crime, and six are absconding. The court has delivered its verdict against 99 accused today.
