A Mumbai Sessions Court on Monday, has sentenced underworld don Chota Rajan and three aides to two years of imprisonment in connection to an extortion case. He was accused of threatening a builder to extort Rs 26 crore.

The underworld don was accused of threatening a Paneval builder identified as Nandu Wajekar and also claimed that he had tried to extort Rs 26 crore.

As per the case details, Nandu Wajekar had purchased a land in Pune, Maharashtra. Wajekar paid Rs 2 crore commission to the agent Parmanand Thakkar as part of the sale. However, Thakkar demanded more money and when Wajekar denied to fulfil his demands, Thakkar allegedly approached Chota Rajan to extort money.

Rajendra S Nikhalje, who is popularly known as Chota Rajan is already serving life sentence in the Tihar Jail of Delhi. He was convicted under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on charges of murder, attempt to murder, extortion and criminal conspiracy.

Chota Rajan was deported from Indonesia following a red corner notice issued by Interpol. He was handed over to the Indian authorities in October 2015

The former D company member is also convicted for the murder of a journalist J Dey in 2011. Chota Rajan also started working for Daood Imbrahim from 1984 till 1993.
