The United States President Donald Trump on Sunday extended the coronavirus guidelines, including social distancing until 30 April, citing that the peak death rate in the country is likely to hit in two weeks.

While addressing to the reporters at a news conference in White House, President Trump stated that “The modeling estimates that peak, the highest point in death rate is likely to hit in two weeks. Therefore, we will be extending our guidelines to 30 April, to slow the spread.”

“The details of the new social guidelines measure would be announced on 1 April,” he added.

Based on the advice from two top public health advisors and members of the White House Task Force on coronavirus: Dr. Deborah Bix and Dr. Anthony Fauci, President Trump decided to extend the social distancing measures till 30 April, further assuring his countrymen that the United States may be on its way to recovery by 1 June.

“They demonstrate that the mitigation measures we are putting in place may significantly reduce the number of new infections and ultimately the number of fatalities,” asserted Trump.

Meanwhile, Dr. Brix stated that the White House Coronavirus Task Force has worked very hard to really look at all of the impacts of the different mitigations that have been utilized around the world.

“The Task Force, which is headed by Vice President Mike Pence has used that evidence base to bring that data and evidence to the President to consider for extending, which is not a simple situation when you ask people to stay at home for another 30 days,” Dr. Brix explained.

Earlier, on 13 March, President Trump declared a national emergency over the fast-spreading coronavirus, further providing about $50 billion in federal aid to fight the disease. The state governments and local city officials have started taking tough measures against those found in the public or not abiding by social distancing measures. The local police at Silicon Valley and New York, have started imposing a penalty of around $200 to $400 for those not adhering to social distancing guidelines.

On the other hand, the number of COVID-19 cases in the US climbed to 142,735 and the death toll reached 2,488. As per sources, Sunday alone has reported more than 18,000 Coronavirus positive cases while 255 lost their lives to the pandemic.

Furthermore, the pandemic has been expanding fast to New York city and New Jersey, which have reported around 59,648 and 13,386 positive coronavirus cases, with a death toll of 965 and 161 respectively.
