Several Supreme Court lawyers on Monday alleged that they have received threatening phone calls from the pro-Khalistani group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) in connection to the PM security lapse matter. They allegedly have received the 5th call within a week.
Maharashtra’s former Chief Standing Counsel Nishant Katneshwarkar and lawyer Apoorv Shukla alleged that they received threat calls from the banned outfit on Monday morning.
The lawyer alleged that he received an automated message in the voice of SFJ founder Gurpatwant Singh Pannun who is residing in the UK. In the audio message, the caller has said that SFJ will not let Justice Indu Malhotra investigate the PM security breach case.
“First we warn advocates. The issue was between PM Modi and Sikhs, but you have filed a complaint against SFJ (and) put yourself in a dangerous position. Now we will hold anti-Muslim and anti-Sikh Supreme Court advocates accountable,” the caller allegedly said.
The lawyers added that the caller has also threatened that they would not let PM Narendra Modi hoist the national flag on Republic Day (January 26).
“While we will block PM Modi on January 26, we will not allow Justice Indu Malhotra to investigate (PM) Modi terror plan… We are making a list of Supreme Court advocates and we will hold you accountable. You will hear from us peacefully, democratically and loudly,” said the lawyers.
SFJ had recently taken the responsibility of blocking PM Modi’s convoy on the Ferozepur flyover for 20 minutes. The incident was condemned all over the country citing it a security lapse.
Last week, the caller had warned the judges not to hear the case and help PM Modi punish the farmers. The caller has also referred to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and accused the court of remaining silent over the death of farmers during farmers protests.
“The call specifically asked Supreme Court Judges to refrain from hearing the petition on the blockade of PM Modi’s cavalcade,” said Vishnu Shankar Jain, UP government lawyer.
The Supreme Court had put the probe ordered by the Punjab and Centre government on hold and constituted a five-member committee headed by retired judge Justice Indu Malhotra.
As per Wikipedia, Sikhs For Justice is a US-based secessionist group that supports the secession of Punjab from India as Khalistan. The outfit was banned in 2019 considering it an unlawful association.
Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a law graduate from the Panjab University and an attorney by profession, is the founder of Sikhs For Justice outfit. He was declared an “individual terrorist” under the UAPA for promoting secessionism after he launched Sikh Referendum 2020 campaign to liberate Punjab from Indian occupation.
