Review Petitions in Ayodhya verdict dismissed
On 11 December, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Jagan Mohan Reddy authorized two draft bills to dispose of the cases of atrocities against women, within 21 days. The first bill is an amendment to the AP Criminal Law and named as the ‘AP Disha Act’ dedicatory to the gang-rape and murder of Hyderabad veterinary doctor. The first draft bill stipulates completion of investigation in seven days and court trials in the following 14 days to award punishment within 21 days. Under this Act, the persons who are convicted of rape are condemned to the death penalty after the cognizable evidence is established. The second draft bill ‘AP Special Court for Specified Offences Against Women and Children Act, 2019’ paves the establishment of special courts for the trial in the cases of cruelty against women and children.
