The apex court on Thursday ordered a judicial inquiry against the police personnel who were involved in the encounter of the four accused, in the gang-rape and murder of the Veterinary doctor in Hyderabad.
Chief Justice of India, S A Bobde ordered a probe in the matter, to be completed within six months. The members of the panel include the former SC judge – Justice V S Sirpurkar, former Bombay HC judge – Justice Rekha Baldota, and former CBI Director Karthikeyan. The top court also concluded that no other court will have the authority to conduct an inquiry into the encounter killings, till then.
According to the police, who were involved in the encounter – all the four accused were accompanied to the crime scene for re-construction of the crime at around 3 AM on 6 December. When the four accused, snatched the weapons from the police personnel and initiated firing, the police had to cross-fire. Thus, the accused were killed in the alleged cross-fire.
On 7 December, a PIL writ petition was filed in the Supreme Court seeking an investigation against the police personnel by the advocates GS Mani and Pradeep Kumar Yadav. The petition interdepended on the 16 guidelines issued by the SC in the PUCL case for probing police encounter killings.
