Thirty-nine women Army officers have won the ongoing legal battle in the Supreme Court. A total of 71 women Short Service Commission officers have moved the apex court seeking a permanent commission.

The Centre submitted that out of the 71 officers, 39 were found eligible for Permanent Commission, seven were medically unfit and 25 had issues of discipline.

The two-judge bench comprising Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice BV Nagarathna has asked the Centre government to submit a detailed report explaining reasons why the 25 were not eligible for Permanent Commission.

The top court, on October 1, had told the government not to relieve any officer from the service.
