Sakri Bai, a 43 year old tribal woman was burnt alive by a man who had borrowed money from her a few months back. She succumbed to her injuries in Osmania General Hospital on Monday.
The incident took place in Gadipeddapur village in Alladurg mandal of Medak district. The deceased suffered 80 percent burns after being allegedly set ablaze by the man who owed her money.
Reportedly, she had gone to the village to recover money from the man P Sadat, who is a butcher by profession. The man poured petrol on her and set her on fire. She ran through the village asking for help before she collapsed. Sakri was found lying in the bushes.
The deceased, who was a widow, is survived by two daughters. The kin of the deceased are now waiting for the post-mortem report and demanding justice for Sakri. They are also seeking compensation for the two daughters.
“We want justice for our sister, the man should be punished as the Disha rape case accused were. We want the State government and police to help us raise her younger daughter,” said the deceased’s brother.
Her husband was killed in a fight a few years back. Since then, she was living with her parents along with her two daughters.
