Special Group Operation personnel detained a woman police sub-inspector alleged of demanding Rs 35 lakh bribe from rape accused to avoid charging him under the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act. Session court granted three days police remand of the woman police officer on Saturday.
After the submission of an application by a man in June 26, inspector R S Suvera of crime branch had lodged a complaint against Ahmedabad-West Mahila police station in-charge Shweta Jadeja. The application submitted alleged her of demanding Rs 35 lakh bribe from the rape accused’s brother in order to not charge Kenal Shah under the Prevention of Anti-Social Activities Act (PASA) Act, in which police can send an accused jail outside his native district.
As per the FIR lodged by R S Suvera, Shweta has demanded Rs 20 lakh first which was received by a middleman. It further states that Bhavesh, brother of the accused had sent through an angadia firm based on CG Road to one Jayubha in Jamjodhpur. She demanded an additional Rs 15 lakh from the rape accused.
“The statement of the girl who went to deposit the money with the angadia in February has been recorded,” said the SOG official. The FIR also stated that the complainant has also submitted the slip and proof of the transactions.
SOG personnel further added,” the complainant also produced before the investigating officer recorded conversations and Whatsapp messages through which the bribe money was demanded by Jadeja. The allegations have been supported by the statements of the angadia firm employees.”
Shweta Jadeja was arrested on Friday under the Prevention of Corruption Act and was produced before session court on Saturday. Police has asked for a seven days remand. However, the court accorded the three days of police remand.
Kenal Shah, who is an MD of a crop solution company in Ahmedabad was accused of two separate rape charges under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code. One of the two cases was being investigated by Shweta Jadeja.
