A man has been booked for raping a woman on a commuter train outside of Philadelphia. She was assaulted for over 40 minutes. What’s more disgusting about this incident was that bystanders allegedly held up their phones to record the incident and no one dialed 911 to inform the police.
“More than two dozen train stops passed as the man harassed, groped, and eventually raped the woman,” said the police chief for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority. A SEPTA employee noticed that something wasn’t right and reported it to the police.
It was hard to believe for the police that not even a single person felt the need to dial 911. The police have been investigating whether some of them had filmed the incident.
“Both the man and woman got on the train at the same stop Wednesday night in North Philadelphia. Officers pulled the man off of the woman at the last stop. They responded within about three minutes of a 911 call from a transportation authority employee,” the police said.
“What we want is everyone to be angry and disgusted and to be resolute about making the system safer,” said SEPTA Police Chief Thomas J. Nestel III.
The accused identified as Fiston Ngoy (35) has been charged with rape and other offences. He has mentioned his last address as a homeless shelter.
The accused remained in custody on $180,000 bail and the initial court appearance in connection to the case has been scheduled for October 25.
