The Karnataka Police has today registered a First Information Report against Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut for her tweet on farmers protesting the recently passed Farmers Acts.

The action came in light of an order of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Court in Tumakuru, Karnataka who had earlier on 10th October directed the state police to register an FIR against Ranaut for her tweet.

Therefore, the current FIR was registered under Sections 44, 108, 153, 153(A), 504 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 on charges of promotion of enmity between groups, intentional insult, and grave provocation.

“The said tweet has hurt the sentiments of lakhs of farmers. These kinds of statements by the celebrities will instigate enmity between different groups of society and will lead to untoward incidents, which will spoil the peace and tolerance prevailing in the society,” read the FIR.

Earlier in September, an Advocate Ramesh Naik moved a complaint seeking registration of an FIR against Ranaut alleging that her tweet termed the farmers who were protesting against the new Farmers Act as ‘terrorists’ and that she had a motive of inciting riots and disturbing the peace prevailing in the society.

Ranaut has on 21st September, posted a message from her official Twitter account citing “People who spread misinformation and rumors about CAA that caused riots are the same people who are now spreading misinformation about Farmer’s bill and causing terror in the nation, they are Terrorists. You very well know what I said but simply like to spread misinformation.”
