Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) summons Congress leader and former Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh for the misappropriation of Rs 332 crores of development funds during his chairmanship tenure i.e. 2009-2017. Other officials have also been summoned and will be questioned on Wednesday.
CBI has reached Imphal and will start questioning Ibobi Singh and other accused on Wednesday. Three other accused involves D S Poonia, PC Lawmuknga, O Nabakishore Singh. All the three former MDS chairmen are retired IAS officers. The former project director of the society Y Ningthem Singh and administrative officer S Ranjit Singh has also been named in the FIR.
On the request of the Manipur state BJP government which was routed through centre government, CBI had registered and taken the charge in the investigation in November 2019.
It was alleged that during the chairmanship tenure of the Manipur Development Society (MDS) from June 2009-July 2017, Okram had misappropriated the government funds worth Rs 332 crore among the total of Rs 518 funds entitled for the development work in the state.
