After a video surfaced on social media and led to huge outrage, Gujarat Health Minister Kumar Kanani’s son has been arrested along with his two friends for violating the lockdown norms and roaming around during the curfew hours imposed in the city in view of surge in the COVID-19 cases.

It is alleged that Kumar Kanani’s son Prakash, and his two friends Dushyant Godhani and Sanjay Kakadia, had an altercation with the woman cop Sunita Yadav, who earned the title of “Lady Singham” when she stopped Prakash’s friends for violating the lockdown rules and roaming outside during the curfew hours. The incident happened on the night of July 9 and her video went viral over the internet.

Surat police authorities had transferred the woman police constable from Varachha police station to Surat headquarters. An inquiry has also been ordered in the matter.

“We arrested all the accused for violating curfew rules and released them on bail on Sunday,” stated Assistant Commissioner of Police of Division A, CK Patel. The accused are arrested under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Epidemic Diseases Act.

On the night of July 9, constable Sunita Yadav stopped a car with five boys. The boys called the MLA’s son to the spot where they fell into an argument with the cop. Some of the video and audio clips regarding the altercation went viral over social media in which Kanani’s son can be heard saying he will make her stand at the same place for 365 days.

The female cop was transferred later and is on sick leave after the incident.
