Punjab police booked a groom and his father in Jalandhar for violating the Covid-19 protocol. The wedding was taking place in a temple in Jalandhar and over 100 people were found at the venue.
Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner submitted that arrests were made since the reception party was held in violation of curfew in place in the state on weekends to tackle the spread of Covid-19. He also stated that no permission was acquired by them to arrange the reception party.
As per the current Covid-protocol, not more than 20 people can gather.
“An FIR was filed against the groom and his father for organising the party in direct violation of the orders. The two were booked under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code,” the police said.
However, the groom, when inquired, claimed that he was not aware about how so many people have gathered for the wedding as he has invited guests as per the norms. “I do not know from where so many people came to the wedding,” the groom said.
The Punjab government issued stricter directions last week in view of the worsening Covid-19 situation. The night curfew timings were extended by an hour. Besides that, the State government had also ordered the closure of bars, cinema halls, gyms, spas, coaching centres and sports complexes in the state till April 30.
