In the series of complaints seeking removal of Saif Ali Khan starrer web series “Tandav” from Amazon Prime, BJP leader Kapil Mishra has also sent a legal notice to the OTT platform alleging it of hurting the Hindu sentiments. The BJP leader has also threatened Amazon Prime of initiating the criminal proceedings if it fails to meet his demands.

“Have issued Legal Notice to @amazonIN to immediately remove #Tandav from its platform or face criminal proceedings. Notice by Advocate @rathi_yukti, #BanTandavNow,” tweeted Kapil Mishra.

Another complaint has been filed at Hazratganj Kotwali of Lucknow against Amazon Prime India’s original content head Aparna Purohit, director of the series Ali Abbas Zafar, producer Himanshu Krishna Mehra, writer Gaurav Solanki, and others allegedly hurting the Hindu religious sentiments.

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has summoned the OTT platform seeking its reply to all the complaints lodged against it. “The ministry has called executives of the video streaming service and decided to seek an explanation from them over the matter,” stated an I&B Ministry official.

The move came after two Bharatiya Janata Party leaders posed allegations that the web series “Tandav” hurt religious sentiments.

BJP leader Manoj Kotak wrote to I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar seeking ban on the web series for allegedly ridiculing the Hindu deities. “Different organisations and individuals have complained that Hindu Gods and Goddesses have been ridiculed in ‘Tandav’ web series. Comments have been passed about them,” Kotak stated.

He further wrote, “It seems that the makers of Tandav have mocked Hindu gods and disrespected Hindu religious sentiments. I urge the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to ban Tandav for the meantime.”

Another BJP leader Ram Kadam has also filed a complaint against “Tandav” at the Ghatkopar police station of Mumbai. “Filed complaint against Tandav Web Series at Ghatkopar police station. Police has assured quick investigation, FIR under Sec 295A of IPC, Section 67A of IT Act & Atrocities Act. Producer, Director, Writer, Actors & Amazon to be summoned soon. #BanTandavNow #Boycottandav,” tweeted Ram Kadam.

Amazon Prime on Friday premiered its web series “Tandav” starring actors Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Sunil Grover, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Dino Morea, Kumud Mishra, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, Gauhar Khan and Kritika Kamra.
