The National Investigation Agency has on Monday, said that it had taken over the probe into the discovery of explosive material in a vehicle parked near the residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani in Mumbai, in February 2021.
As per sources, NIA would investigate the entire matter and take over the probe from the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad.
Around 20 gelatin sticks were found in a Mahindra Scorpio parked near Antilia, the residence of Ambani in South Mumbai, on February 25. Police claimed the vehicle had been stolen from the Airoli-Mulund Bridge on February 18. The owner of the SUV, identified as Mansukh Hiren told police officials that his car broke down on the Mulund-Airoli Link Road on February 16 and he parked it there. However, when he returned the next day, the vehicle was stolen. Hiren also filed a complaint with the Vikhroli police.
However, days later i.e., on March 5, the body of Hiren, was fished out from the Mumbra creek, in Thane. Hiren’s family alleged that he had been murdered.
Subsequently, on Monday (8 March 2021), sources in the ATS said more than 10 teams had been formed to probe the death of Hiren. Addressing the Maharashtra Assembly, state Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said the guilty won’t be spared.
“The investigations regarding the planting of an explosives-laden car near Mukesh Ambani’s residence and the death of Mansukh Hiren are in the right direction. After a complaint by Hiren’s wife, a case of murder has been registered against unknown persons,” he said.
