The Maharashtra government on Tuesday announced that there would be a 60 percent cut in the salaries for the month of March, for all-state public representatives, including Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister, in the wake of coronavirus crisis.
Deputy Chief Minister and the state Finance Minister Ajit Pawar stated that the decision was taken after discussing with representatives of government employee unions and consultation with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
The salary of all elected representatives, including those in civic bodies, will be down by 60%. Government employees belonging to Class I and II will receive a 50% salary cut, while Class III employees will have a pay cut of 25% from their remuneration. Besides, there will be no pay cut for Class IV employees.
“I hope the public representatives will cooperate with the state finance department as strong financial support is required for the state in this ongoing fight against coronavirus” stated Ajit Pawar.
Meanwhile, in Maharashtra, the number of positive coronavirus cases increased to 225 as on Tuesday, with 10 deaths, including 8 in Mumbai, and one each in Pune and Buldhana.
Pay cut by Telangana Government
Furthermore, on Monday, the Telangana government has also decided a huge pay cut for its employees ranging from 10 percent to 75 percent. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has decided to take a 75% salary cut, along with his cabinet, MLCs, MLAs, state corporation chairpersons, and local bodies representatives. For IAS, IPS IFS and other such central services officers, there will be a 60% pay cut and for all other categories of employees, there will be a 50% salary cut.
Further, for the Class IV outsourcing and contract employees, there will be 10 percent cut in the salary while for all category of pensioners there will be a 50 percent cut. Also, there will be a 10 percent cut in the salary for the Class IV retired employees and for all the Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), Institutions employees, that are receiving the government grants, there will be cut in their salaries as well.
