The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain a PIL which sought for the removal of Uddhav Thackeray-led government from Maharashtra and imposition of President’s Rule in the State.

The bench comprising of Chief Justice of India SA Bobde, Justices AS Bopanna, and V Ramasubramanian heard a petition filed by three Delhi residents who sought President’s rule in Maharashtra and dismissal of Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government. The petition alleged that the affairs of Maharashtra state were not being carried out in line with the constitutional and legal provisions.

Nonetheless, the court rebuffed stating that it could not entertain prayers like these. “As a petitioner, you are at liberty to approach the President, but don’t come here,” asserted the court.

While the petitioner cited few instances like actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death and the demolition of part of Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut’s property as examples of law and order issues, the bench knocked stating “You are saying that because some Bollywood actor has died, the Constitution is not being followed in the State?”

“Do you know how big Maharashtra is?”, CJI Bobde asked the petitioner, implying that Mumbai alone does not constitute the entire State and sweeping statements cannot be made as such.
