Akshay, one of the four death row convicts in the gruesome Nirbhaya gangrape case has filed a curative petition in the Supreme Court, against his execution which was scheduled for 1 February. Earlier, the convicts Vinay and Mukesh have filed their curative petition on 9th and 10th January, respectively, which were subsequently dismissed by the Supreme court on 14th January.
Advocate AP Singh is representing the convict Akshay who has also appeared for the convict Vinay earlier while filing his curative petition.
“I have approached the SC registry with a curative petition today. The registry has asked me to file some additional documents along with the petition and I am in the process of completing the formalities,” stated Akshay’s counsel.
Once, the Supreme Court rejects the curative petition of Akshay, he will be left with the option to file mercy plea before the President.
As per reports, with the curative petition filed by Akshay, it is unlikely that the convicts will be hanged on 1 February.
