With the second wave of Coronavirus hitting the country harder, the healthcare system and facilities can be seen crumbling. The shortage of medicine, beds, ventilators, medical negligence, and much more is there.

In a major negligence case reported in the Covid ward of Shivpuri district hospital, a ward boy allegedly removed the oxygen supply of a Covid patient. The incident was captured on the CCTV camera.

The Superintendent of the Medical College has formed a 3-membered team of doctors to inspect the matter and submit a report within 48 hours.

Surendra Sharma who was a teacher by profession was admitted to Shivpuri hospital on Tuesday night. The family of the patient alleged that the ward boy removed his oxygen support and put it on another patient which led to his death due to breathlessness.

The deceased’s son, Deepak Sharma submitted, “Papa’s condition was good for 2-3 days, he was eating properly, drinking water. Someone removed oxygen at night. He kept on yearning. I got a call in the morning. I came running, I told the doctors and nurses to put oxygen on it, but they did not apply. He died in 10-15 minutes.”

District Chief Medical Officer, Dr Arjun Lal Sharma said, “As far as the district hospital is concerned, we have 76 oxygen, 30 bed ICU 13 SNFU machines, of which 4 were used yesterday. The rest are kept in reserve. The patients were already undergoing dialysis and their hemoglobin was also reduced. The investigation will be completed by watching the CCTV footage as soon as possible. If anyone has committed a crime, then punishment will be given.”
