Delhi Police on Monday issued a lookout notice against 2-time Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar in connection to the Chhatrasal Stadium brawl which led to the murder of former junior national champion in North West Delhi’s Chhatrasal Stadium, Sagar Dhankad. Sushil Kumar has been absconding after being named in the murder.
23-year-old Sagar Dhankad was beaten to death in the parking area of Chhatrasal Stadium last Tuesday night. Following the incident, an FIR was registered against Sushil Kumar under the charges of murder, abduction, and criminal conspiracy. All the accused have been booked under relevant Sections of Indian Penal Code and Arms Act.
As per the reports, Kumar left for Haridwar and then for Rishikesh after the murder. He stayed in an ashram. He has constantly been changing the locations.
The police have already recorded the statement of the victims. As per the victims, the brawl took place over vacating a flat in Model Town Area.
The victims alleged that they were brutally assaulted by other wrestlers. It was claimed in the statement that Kumar and his aides abducted Sagar from his house to teach him a lesson for bad-mouthing in front of other wrestlers.
As per the police, the brawl took place between Sushil Kumar, Ajay, Prince Dalal, Sonu, Sagar, Amit and others. The two groups allegedly opened fire on each other which led to the death of a wrestler.
Sushil Kumar issued a statement in his defence, “They weren’t our wrestlers, it happened late last night. We have informed police officials that some unknown people jumped into our premises and fought. No connection of our stadium with this incident.”
