On 19 December, the relatives of the four accused in the gang-rape and murder of the Hyderabad veterinary doctor appealed to the Supreme Court seeking CBI probe into the encounter.
The petition urged the court to call for the police records of December 6, before and after the ‘encounter’ and also to conduct a CBI investigation against the Cyberabad Police Commissioner, V.C. Sajjanar.
They further sought a compensation of Rs 50 Lakh each for the families of the four accused who were killed in the encounter.
Earlier on December 12, the apex court ordered a judicial inquiry against the police personnel who were involved in the encounter of the four accused, in the case. CJI, S A Bobde ordered a probe in the matter, to be completed within six months with the members of the panel being the former SC judge – Justice V S Sirpurkar, former Bombay HC judge – Justice Rekha Baldota, and former CBI Director Karthikeyan. Further, advocate K. Parameshwar was appointed as the counsel for the Commission.
The SC also concluded that the Telangana High Court and the National Human Rights Commission, will not have the authority to conduct an inquiry into the encounter killings, till then.
