The Rashtriya Janata Dal chief, Lalu Prasad Yadav, was rejected bail on 6 December 2019, by the Jharkhand High Court concerning to multi-crore fodder scam case. The case pertains to the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 3.5 crore from the Dumka treasury by Animal Husbandry Department officials in the 1990s when Lalu was the undivided state’s, Chief Minister.
The bail plea was rejected by the bench on the ground that he has not yet completed half of his prison term.
In March 2018, Lalu Prasad was dispensed to 14 years imprisonment, 7 years each under the Indian Penal Code & Prevention of Corruption Act, both to run concurrently, along with a fine of Rs 60 Lakh, by the special CBI court of Ranchi in the case.
Earlier, in September 2013, he was sentenced to five-year imprisonment concerning to Chaibasa treasury case, which also barred Lalu Prasad from contesting in elections for 11 years. Recurrently, in December 2017, he was sentenced to three and half years of prison regarding the Deoghar treasury case and also five years of imprisonment concerning to Chaibasa treasury. Later, he got bail in both Chaibasa and Deoghar treasury cases.
