Chief Justice of India Sharad Arvind Bobde’s mother was duped to the tune of Rs 2.5 crore by a caretaker of one of their properties. The accused has been arrested and sent to judicial custody till December 16.

The 49-year old accused, Tapas Ghosh has been arrested in Nagpur in connection to the matter. Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been probing the matter under the supervision of Vinita Sahu.

Mother of Sharad Arvind Bobde, Mukta Bobde is the owner of ‘Seasons Lawn’ situated near Akashwani square. She has appointed a man named Tapas Ghosh as the caretaker of the property since 2007. They used to rent out the place for marriages. He was paid a salary and commission by Mukta Bobde.

It is alleged that Ghosh took advantage of Mukta Bobde’s old age and health issues and didn’t deposit the entire rent amount. The Bobde family also alleged that Ghosh and his wife had forged receipts.

The family came to know about the fraud when several bookings were canceled amid the ongoing pandemic situation. But it was discovered that customers could not get the refund amount from Ghosh.

Following the irregularities, Mukta Bobde filed a cheating case against the couple. SIT scrutinized all the documents from 2007 and found that Ghosh had duped the Bobde family of Rs 2.5 crore. It was also revealed that he had not paid several bills for the property too.

On Tuesday night, SIT lodged an FIR under Section 409 (criminal breach of trust), Section 420 (cheating), and Section 467 (forgery) of the Indian Penal Code in Sitabuldi Police Station.
